RODDERICK R. STANLEY, 25, of 331 7th Avenue, Tifton GA, pleaded guilty today in Houston Superior Court to one count of Trafficking Cocaine. He was sentenced to thirty (30) years and ordered to serve the first ten (10) of those years in prison.

In addition to the prison time, Stanley was ordered to pay a Two Hundred Thousand dollar ($ 200,000.00) fine plus numerous additional fees. The total amount of fines and fees will be approximately $ 350,000.00. Stanley was also banished from Houston County and all contiguous counties for the entire 30-year sentence.

On February 7, 2007, Perry Police Sergeant Ron Brainard stopped a vehicle on I-75 for a window tint violation. While talking with the driver, Rodderick Stanley, Sgt. Brainard noticed a plastic bag containing a white substance protruding from under the driver's seat. When Sgt. Brainard reached in to grab the bag, Stanley fled on foot and ran across I-75. Officers pursued Stanley on foot and caught him a short time later.  The substance turned out to be 332 grams (or about 12 ounces) of 50% pure Cocaine according to chemists at the GBI Crime Lab in Macon. The street value of the Cocaine is estimated at around $ 33,000.00.

COMMENTS FROM SENIOR ASSISTANT DA GEORGE HARTWIG: "Sgt. Brainard did a great job on this case," said Sr. ADA Hartwig. "Because Sgt. Brainard was alert and observant, a simple traffic stop turned into a major narcotics arrest," Hartwig said. "Another drug trafficker is off the street due to the efforts of Sgt. Ron Brainard," added Sr. ADA Hartwig. "Drug traffickers should take note: get caught in Houston County and you are going to prison," Hartwig said.

The sentence was imposed by Senior Judge L.A. "Buster" McConnell, Jr. Rodderick Stanley was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney George H. Hartwig III and Assistant District Attorney Timothy Marlow, Houston Judicial Circuit. Stanley was represented by Assistant Public Defender Claudia Meier.
