With the help of the victim, our office provides restitution information to probation. The probation office then sets up a payment plan for the defendant based on total amount of restitution and the time that the defendant will have on probation. As the defendants make payments, the money is sent to the State. The State then prepares a check and sends it back to the probation officers who then forwards it to the victim.
It is very important that the restitution information be provided to our office within two weeks of the sentence. Documentation is required proving the amount owed, otherwise, the probation office will not be able to collect it.
