Probation does not always expire at the time set by the judge at the sentencing hearing.  Several other factors may come into play to lessen or lengthen the time on probation.  If a probation disappears from supervision, the probation officer may file a warrant with the court called a "non est".  This tolls the probationer's time so that when the probationer is finally found, all the time he spent on the run does not count toward his probation time.  In some circumstances, the court may determine that a probationer should have their probation terminated early.  In other situations, if a probationer has their probation revoked for a period of time, the court may suspend the balance of that person's probation.  Thus, there is no clear-cut, easy answer to when a person's probation will end.
