Over 500,000 pages scanned into our Paperless Prosecutor system! We averaged 3.6 “reads” or copies of a page prior to implementing our Paperless Prosecutor system, so let’s do the math: 500,000 pages X 6 lbs/ream x 2.6 = 21,600 lbs of paper, 0r 10.8 tons of paper. Wow! Ladies and Gentlemen, that’s a lot of paper.
In this day of cutting spending to offset declining revenues, we have saved approximately 11 tons of paper from flowing out of this office. Just take the cost of 1000 reams of paper at $3 per ream, that is $3,000.00 in savings right there in our office, but it’s $9,000 of savings if the recipients also just use our electronic file instead of printing the document. Now add in the cost of a copier, the cost of operating the copier, lost staff time spent at the copier and walking to and from the copier, well it adds up to real money. Neil O'Brien, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Eaton County, Michigan, even counts the savings by reduced wear and tear on his carpet, as well as the shoe leather that is saved by not traipsing back and forth to the copier. We don't go that far, we're too busy prosecuting criminals to have time to count that.
Our next big goal is the 1 millionth page, which should come sometime next year. We’ll keep you apprized.
